Ruqya & Manzil During Hayd
Assalamualaykum please can you advise me on the permissibility of performing ruqyah upon oneself (or having ruqyah recited by somebody else) whilst in the state of menstruation. Is it permissible to pray the ruqyah ayahs and things like manzil etc?
Jazakallahukhayr
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Inspirer of truth
It is not permissible for a woman in the state of menstruation (hayd) or post-natal bleeding (nifas) to recite Qur’an unless it is with the intention of supplication (du’a) or glorification/praise (thana’/hamd) and the verses have this inherent meaning.
There is a difference of opinion amongst scholars regarding the manzil. We have taken the view that it will not be permissible as it includes large portions of Qur’an, which do not meet these criteria. It is permissible to recite Ayat al-Kursi, Surahs Fatiha, Ikhlas, Falaq & Nas and other similar verses of du’a or glorification/praise while on hayd or nifas. The same ruling also applies to verses of ruqya.
It would be permissible to have someone not in hayd or nifas to recite the manzil or ruqya verses.
Please see the article on ‘Quran’ for more information.
And Allah knows best.
