Is My Spotting Hayd or Istihada
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Please can you assist with regards to the following query:
I had my periods this month 21 days after my previous period. I started spotting on the 4th of April, and had my ghusl on the 12th of April and read my Zuhr salaah. On the 14th of April, at Zuhr time I had a brownish/whitish discharge on my panty and upon closer inspection I saw a slight red colour in the discharge as well. After wiping there was a whitish discharge on the toilet paper with a slight red colour in the discharge also. The maximum number of 10 days would have been on the 14th, and as there was 2 clean days after my ghusl on the 12th, my question is whether this discharge will be regarded as a continuation of my periods or not? If it is regarded as periods, will the rule of bleeding exceeding 10 days be applied here?جزاك اللهُ
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Inspirer of truth
The maximum time for menstruation (hayd) is 240 hours (ten days and nights). If the spotting you saw on the 14th April was within 240 hours, the bleeding from 4th April onwards will be hayd. You will need to check the time the spotting began to confirm this. For example, if the bleeding began at 3 pm on the 4thApril, your 240-hour time frame will end at 3pm on the 14thApril.
However, if the coloured discharge was outside the 240-hour limit or you see coloured discharge within the next 15 days, the ruling will change. You will need to refer to your previous habit to determine which days of bleeding are hayd. If you require further assistance, we suggest you contact us and include the dates of at least three previous menstrual cycles.
And Allah knows best.
